FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

To get started with neurofeedback – book a free, confidential consultation with our intake director. She’ll go over the process with you in detail and help you set goals so you can track your progress on your neurofeedback journey. This will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about neurofeedback and NeurAlive’s services.

To get started with counselling, you can find immediate help by visiting our therapists page and choosing a therapist based on their bio that you feel could be the right fit. From there you can book your first session or a free consultation.

If you’re not sure whether you’d like to pursue neurofeedback or counselling and you’d appreciate a little guidance, please feel free to book a complimentary consultation with our Intake Coordinator as a first step in working with us.

If you have extended health benefits, your neurofeedback sessions can be covered as a session with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. You have the option of receiving an email or print out of your invoice for reimbursement by your insurance company. We aim to make your payment process as smooth as possible, just let us know how we can help.

NeurAlive is a proudly registered provider with the First Nations Health Authority and can offer unlimited sessions of advanced brain training to most First Nations clients with or without status. Learn more about how to access services if you are First Nations or phone us directly at 250-389-2819.

Neurofeedback is excellent for post-concussive or post-traumatic symptoms often associated with recovering from an accident. While we are currently unable to direct bill with ICBC, many of our clients pay for your sessions out of pocket and submit receipts to ICBC for reimbursement.

Neurofeedback, also called neurotherapy or EEG Biofeedback, is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity to teach self-regulation of brain function. Your brain knows best how to heal itself, neurofeedback simply acts as a mirror for your brain, giving it the opportunity to self-correct.

Neurofeedback restores the natural resiliency and flexibility of the nervous system and is a powerful tool for any brain. It’s suitable for all ages (4+), and can help alleviate symptoms of a variety of conditions, while improving sleep, mood, focus, performance, creativity and overall well-being.

Both counselling and neurofeedback can provide relief from mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, adhd, ptsd etc. However, you don’t have to be diagnosed with a specific condition to access our services. Perhaps you are going through a big transition in life, are experiencing a loss, or maybe you just feel like there’s something holding you back from meeting your full potential. We’ll meet you wherever you’re at to provide you with the tools you need to be your best self. Book a free confidential consultation for help on deciding on a treatment plan at NeurAlive.

NeurAlive’s therapists customize their therapeutic approaches based on the individual needs of each client. Some approaches focus on changing thoughts and behaviours, and provide you with weekly tasks. Others are more trauma-focused and can help you gain insight into your emotional history. An effective counselling relationship allows for collaboration between you and your therapist to meet your specific needs. Read the bios of our therapists to learn more about their individual approaches.

While every brain is different and every training is unique, our experience working with many hundreds of clients validates the research in this field, that 20 sessions offered at regular intervals represents a complete training protocol. In some cases, 10 sessions will be sufficient, particularly with children. The vast majority of our clients will begin to notice significant change between 1-8 sessions. Still, it’s important to complete an initial series of 10, 20 or more sessions for deep lasting results. We therefore only offer packages of 10 and 20 sessions to our new clients, and then individual ‘tune-up’ sessions thereafter to maintain the results long term. We also offer rental systems for more intensive at-home training for the whole family.

The length of treatment for counselling is entirely up to the individual and will depend on your history, and mental health goals. Many people feel satisfied with the results of their treatment in around 12 sessions. Some people may need less, especially if they are tackling a shorter-term problem, while others will need more, particularly if they are trying to make changes to long-term patterns. Your relationship with your therapist doesn’t end when treatment is over, you are always welcome back if anything changes in your life and you need additional support.
