Alice Mickelson, Registered Social Worker
With over a decade of experience, Alice approaches her diverse practice, serving adults, children, youth, and families, with a growth mindset. Grounded in empathy, she employs evidence-based therapies and play therapy to establish meaningful connections with clients, fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding.
Alice values the power of family relationships, emphasizing the importance of cultivating strong connections between children and parents or caregivers. She integrates various therapeutic approaches, including child-centered, Adlerian, and cognitive-based therapies, along with art and play therapy and attachment theory, to address challenges such as adoption, behavioral issues, trauma, grief, anxiety, and attachment concerns.
Having learned and trained under the Indigenous community and Indigenous Elders, Alice brings a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed lens to her work with Indigenous children and families. This unique perspective enriches her approach, ensuring a culturally relevant and respectful therapeutic experience. She also has a personal passion for supporting individuals and couples dealing with infertility and assisted reproduction.
As a member of the BC Association of Play Therapists (BCPTA) and the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS), Alice is committed to ongoing professional development. Holding a Master of Social Work Degree from York University and memberships with the BC College of Social Workers (BC CSW), Alice combines her educational background with practical expertise.
Beyond her professional commitments, Alice finds joy in family life, exploring the outdoors of Vancouver Island, reading fiction and non-fiction, and engaging in creative pursuits.
Based out of the Victoria office, Alice is available for adult and child/youth counseling, offering a compassionate and holistic approach to well-being.
