About Eleanor Munk, MSW RSW
Registered Social Worker / Psychotherapist
You may be carrying more than anyone realizes—feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in old patterns, or struggling to make sense of what you’re going through. Whatever brings you to therapy, you don’t have to face it alone.
Reaching out for support takes courage, and I don’t take that lightly. I strive to create a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can speak openly, feel understood, and explore what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we’ll work toward greater self-understanding, healing, and meaningful change.
My approach is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and respect for your unique experiences. Whether you’re navigating addiction, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, questions of identity, or a major life transition, I will meet you where you are and support you at a pace that feels right for you.
Substance Use, Impulsive Behaviours, and Shame: Many people turn to alcohol, drugs, pornography, sex, food, or other coping strategies during difficult times. These behaviours often begin as ways of managing pain, stress, loneliness, or overwhelm before eventually creating challenges of their own.
I offer a compassionate, shame-free space to explore your relationship with substances or other coping behaviours. Together, we’ll work to understand what these patterns have been helping you manage, process the underlying pain, and develop healthier ways of coping and moving forward.
Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, & Self-Esteem: Living with anxiety, depression, trauma, or low self-worth can leave you feeling exhausted, disconnected, or stuck in survival mode. Whether you’re struggling with day-to-day stress or the lasting impact of difficult experiences, therapy can help you better understand your reactions, build resilience, and reconnect with a sense of safety and confidence.
My work with survivors of torture and political persecution has deeply informed my approach to supporting individuals living with trauma and PTSD.
Grief, Loss, & Ambiguous Loss: Grief is one of life’s most painful experiences, and it can take many forms. You may be grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, your health, a hoped-for future, or a part of yourself. Some losses are harder to define. You may be caring for a loved one whose health is declining, adjusting to a major life change, or struggling with a loss that others don’t fully understand.
I offer compassionate support as you process your grief, make sense of your experience, and move toward healing in your own way.
Loneliness, Alienation, & Relationship Concerns: Feeling lonely, disconnected, or misunderstood can be deeply painful, even when surrounded by other people. Whether you’re navigating challenges in romantic relationships, family relationships, friendships, or your relationship with yourself, I provide a supportive space to explore patterns, strengthen communication, and foster more meaningful connections.
I work with both individuals and couples.
Life Transitions & Change: Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect. Changes such as the end of a relationship, career shifts, illness, relocation, retirement, or other major life events can leave us feeling uncertain or overwhelmed.
Together, we’ll work to navigate these transitions, process what has been lost, and help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Spiritual Crises, Identity, & Purpose: Sometimes people find themselves questioning who they are, what gives their life meaning, or how their beliefs fit with their experiences. Others may be navigating profound life events that challenge their understanding of themselves or the world around them.
Whether you identify as religious, spiritual, both, or neither, I offer an open-minded and respectful space to explore questions of identity, purpose, values, and meaning.
Approaches: Trauma & Recovery Model (Judith Herman), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Humanistic / Person-Centred Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Systems Theory.
I draw from the following approaches based on your unique needs and goals rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach:
Populations: Adults (18+), Couples, and Families (18+).
Areas of Support: Anxiety, Depression, Grief & Loss, Trauma & PTSD, Substance Use & Impulsive Behaviours, Relationship Challenges, Men’s Mental Health, Life Transitions, Loneliness & Isolation, Stress, Chronic Illness, and End-of-Life Concerns.
Education and Experience: I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work and a certificate in Trauma-Informed Care from the University of Chicago. My practicum and professional experience has included supporting formerly incarcerated individuals returning to the community, refugee survivors of state-sponsored torture, political asylees, and individuals living with chronic illnesses such as leukemia and other blood cancers. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of creating a therapeutic space where people feel genuinely seen, heard, and understood.
Beyond the Work: Outside of therapy, I enjoy writing, spending time with dogs, reading, and exploring the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I’m also fascinated by geopolitics, life’s deeper questions, and the mysteries that make us human. When I’m not working, you’ll often find me with a good book or watching a scary movie.
