About Sofia Fuertes, MA RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor

Blending professional expertise with personal insight, I offer a warm, compassionate, and attuned space where you can safely explore your emotions, deepen self-understanding, and cultivate meaningful growth.

I’m a bilingual counsellor (English and Spanish) dedicated to supporting children, youth, and adults as they navigate the challenges of ADHD, anxiety, stress, depression, life transitions, grief, parenting, and complex relationships. My practice is enriched by my personal connection to ADHD, complex life transitions, and my own parenting journey.

My key areas of focus include:

ADHD: As a Certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), I offer specialized support and practical strategies to help individuals navigate the challenges of ADHD. Together, we’ll develop actionable skills, create structure in daily life, strengthen relationships, and build self-regulation strategies that truly work. My approach is highly personalized, recognizing the uniqueness of each person. I welcome collaboration in shaping a change process that aligns with your needs and goals, ensuring that our work together is both effective and meaningful.

Grief: I support clients in navigating the complex journey of healing from trauma and grief, helping them build inner resilience, rediscover a sense of safety, and cultivate renewed hope for the future.

Parenting Support: I partner with parents to navigate the challenges and transitions of parenting, helping them build confidence, deepen connection with their children, and find clarity during times of growth and change. I offer support in identifying and refining a parenting style that aligns with their values and fits the unique needs of their family, as well as effective communication to enhance empathy and understanding, resulting in a more aligned parenting approach.

Life Transitions: Whether facing the end of a meaningful relationship, adjusting to living in a new city or country, or navigating significant life-stage changes, I help clients uncover their inner strengths, process their experiences, and find renewed purpose as they move into the next chapter of their lives.

Approaches: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Somatic Approaches.

Populations: Children (10+), Youth, Parents, Adults, and Immigrants.

Specializations: ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Substance Use, Grief & Loss, Neurodivergence, and Trauma.

Education & Experience: I earned my Master’s degree in Psychology in Mexico and completed extensive counselling training in Canada, giving me a unique blend of approaches rooted in cultural sensitivity and respect for each client’s individuality. My background spans private practice counselling, volunteer work, and coordinating community programs in education, parenting support, and mental health—experiences that have shaped my commitment to culturally competent, client-centered care.

Beyond the Work: Outside of my counselling practice, I love spending quality time with my family and immersing myself in the natural beauty of Victoria. As an immigrant from Mexico, I have firsthand experience with resilience, adaptability, and the power of community—values that deeply influence both my personal life and the culturally sensitive approach I bring to therapy. I also enjoy playing and cuddling with my two dogs, Maui and Lulu, and cooking as a way to connect with others through food. Reading and savoring quiet mornings bring me peace and help me stay grounded. These simple joys remind me of the importance of balance, empathy, and community—values I carry into my work every day.
