About Nakita Stein, MA RCC
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Sometimes, life throws challenges our way that feel overwhelming. Transitions, health struggles, grief, trauma, or addictions can leave us feeling stuck or disconnected. Counselling offers a supportive space to process these experiences, gain clarity, and work toward meaningful change.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a Registered Nurse in diverse mental health programs, supporting individuals from all walks of life. Through these experiences, I learned that people often have a deep understanding of what they need — they just require space and support to reconnect with that wisdom. Counselling offers that safe place to reflect, explore, and face challenges with gentle guidance.
My approach meets you wherever you are on your journey — whether you’re just beginning to explore an issue, continuing work you’ve already started, or maintaining positive changes you’ve made. Together, we’ll navigate life’s twists and turns, working collaboratively to reconnect with your inner strength and move forward with intention.
My practice primarily focuses on the following areas:
Mental Health: I support clients experiencing mental health challenges including depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder using evidence-based approaches. Together, we develop strategies to understand and manage symptoms, build emotional balance, and foster long-term well-being.
Trauma: I help clients process the impact of traumatic experiences and the beliefs that may have formed around them. By exploring these narratives, we work to shift unhelpful self-perceptions and build the strength to move toward healing and a sense of safety.
Grief and Loss: Grief can be overwhelming, but healing is possible. I provide a supportive space to process your loss, honour your emotions, and explore pathways to growth, helping you integrate your experience and find a renewed sense of hope.
Health Struggles: I help clients navigate the emotional and practical challenges that come with chronic or acute health conditions. Together, we explore the grief, loss, and uncertainties you may face, finding ways to adapt to a new “normal” with compassion, resilience, and meaning.
Addictions: I work collaboratively with clients to understand the underlying factors behind substance use, gambling, or compulsive behaviours. Together, we create a tailored plan to help you regain control, break unhelpful patterns, and build a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Life Transitions: Major life changes can bring uncertainty, stress, and a sense of loss. I help clients navigate these transitions with clarity and resilience, uncovering opportunities for growth and empowerment as you move forward.
First Responders: I support first responders facing the unique challenges of their work, including trauma, high stress, and burnout. Together, we explore how these experiences impact their mental health and relationships, as we build resilience and foster balance and well-being.
Approaches:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Focuses on building psychological flexibility by helping you accept difficult emotions, clarify your values, and take action toward a meaningful life.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): A practical, goal-oriented approach that helps identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): Emphasizes emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, often for navigating intense emotions or relational challenges.
Internal Family Systems (IFS): A compassionate approach that explores the different “parts” of your inner self, helping to heal wounds and foster self-leadership.
Populations: Adults (18+) and First Responders.
Specializations: Anxiety, Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, Self-Esteem, Trauma, Grief/Loss, Addictions, Health Issues, and Life Transitions.
Work & Education Background: Nakita has completed a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. She also holds an undergraduate degree in nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years in a variety of mental health settings. Nakita is currently enrolled in EMDR training and is expected to be completed in March 2025.
Beyond the Work: Outside of work, I cherish the simple pleasures: a perfectly brewed cup of tea, the gentle flicker of candlelight at night, singing along to a favorite song in the car, and laughing with my family at dinner. Also, I have an unapologetic love for Crocs.
