About Brad Rudner

Brad Rudner, Clinical Counsellor

“Connecting with people where they are at, seeing their strengths and potential, and supporting them to get where they want to be is at the heart of my work.”

As a Clinical Counsellor  at NeurAlive, Brad Rudner brings a wealth of expertise cultivated over three decades at the intersection of education, recreation, and both physical and mental health.  Offering a holistic approach integrating mind and body, Brad supports youth (14+), adults, couples, and families to navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, addiction, and life transitions.

When appropriate, Brad leverages his health coaching proficiency within the counselling domain, bolstered by his board certification as a nutritionist. His client-focused efforts revolve around instilling positive habits and behaviors that enrich overall well-being, drawing upon his deep knowledge of health psychology, so that people not only overcome their difficulties but also learn to thrive. Underpinned by a deep appreciation for meaning-making and existential exploration, Brad supports clients to understand their motivations and align their lifestyles with their values and goals. In addition to conventional counselling, he offers unique services such as nature-based counselling and fitness-focused therapeutic coaching, providing a full-spectrum approach to mental and physical well-being.

Beyond counselling, Brad is a subject matter expert presenter on the topic of Screen Time: Misuse and Overuse, affiliated with the UVic Speaker’s Bureau. He has shared his expertise at professional conferences, schools, PTAs, and post-secondary institutions. Brad has also contributed to the Children and Nature Network’s International Conference and Summit, advocating for a balance between the digital world and the therapeutic potential of the natural environment for children and families.

Brad has degrees in philosophy, education, and soon in Human and Social Development (CYC) counselling. His master’s thesis is a multidisciplinary study that integrates counselling, behavior psychology, and exercise science in looking at the unique struggles of young men. He guided two cohorts for a two-day nature intervention, which led to a supported 6-week resistance training program.  Further enriching his toolkit, Brad is an active researcher at the Behavioral Medicine Lab and holds a teaching position at the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education at the University of Victoria.

On a personal note, Brad is a proud father to two teenage daughters and a large Goldendoodle named Blue. His own commitment to well-being is evident through his regular nature excursions (often in the company of Blue), utilization of fitness for both physical and mental health, and dedication to fostering connections with individuals, community, place, and self.
